Routes | Pompeii

The archeological site of Pompeii, located on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, is a golden attraction for tourists in Campania. Pompeii fascinates from an artistic, historical point of view, it is a unique place in the world and there you can recreate, step by step, the daily life of the inhabitants of a town which the Vesuvius eruption has made immortal. In 1997 UNESCO declared Pompeii World Heritage Site.

Actually Pompeii is the only Roman town which survived untouched: you don’t need to “imagine or recreate” looking at well preserved ruins, you only need to look. The unexpected rain of ashes and lapillus and the following cloud of dust have crystallized the whole town and its tragedy, protecting it in the centuries.

The ruins of the Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, buried under 79 AD Vesuvius eruption, offer an incomparable scene of the classical world society and daily life, a witness preserved for more than 2000 years. Pompeii is easy reachable by Circumvesuviana trains which runs every 30 minutes and in 15 minutes leave you right outside the archeological site main entrance.
